ACE Winches was commissioned in 2011 to manufacture a specialist package of winches to assist Subsea 7 in the repair of Dong Energy's Siri Platform, offshore Denmark valued at over £10m.
The package comprises three ACE 14 tonne winches, tow ACE 50 tonne winches as well as one ACE 120 tonne winches, with their associated Diesel Zone 2 HPU's. These are all approved and load tested as per DNV rules for lifting appliances 2.22.
Dong stopped production after discovering cracks in the subsea infrastructure and a temporary solution was found. ACE Winches was brought in by Subsea 7 to help deliver the permanent solution for the project. This involves the installation of cable stays between the platform legs, as well as a subsea structure to support the well head caisson. ACE Winches have commissioned and installed three winch platforms at the top of each leg to support the installation.
