Scottish apprenticeship week

5th March 2024

To celebrate Scottish apprenticeship week, we caught up with Nicole, a first year business administration apprentice at ACE Winches to tell us more on her current role within the company.

Tell us about your apprenticeship?

My modern apprenticeship in business administration involves rotating through various departments of the company to gain experience with different teams and business functions. Since October of last year I've been working in the HSEQ department.

What inspired you to do an apprenticeship?

Leaving school at the end of S6 I knew I didn’t want to go to college or university and I started working in a local business as a shop assistant.  This was great experience and it inspired me to find out more about a role in business and administration.   The opportunity to apply for the business modern apprenticeship at ACE Winches presented itself and I knew it would be perfect for me with the bonus of learning and earning a wage at the same time.

What’s been the best part about your apprenticeship so far?

The best part of my apprenticeship so far is being recognised for how much my confidence has grown. I’ve gained the skills to interact with my peers and the team have made me feel very welcome.

What do you hope to achieve in your time here?

During my time at ACE Winches I hope to develop my knowledge of the business and the energy industry as a whole.  I hope this experience will give me the skills to develop a successful career and open the door to exciting opportunities.

What advice would you give to anyone considering an apprenticeship?

If you are considering an apprenticeship all I can say is DO IT! It is something you will never regret. I have met so many people and gained so much experience in such little time and I can’t wait to see what the next 4 years bring!
