ACE delivers world leading GBS and Topside Load-Out solution

CHALLENGE:

To supply a bespoke Gravity Based Structure (GBS) Installation Package for KKC, offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

The Hebron field was developed using a stand-alone concrete gravity based structure (GBS). The GBS consisted of a reinforced concrete structure designed to withstand sea ice, icebergs and meteorological and oceanographic conditions. It is designed to store approximately 1.2 million barrels of crude oil. The Bull Arm Site is the primary construction site for the GBS.

SOLUTION:

We designed, engineered and manufactured eight hydraulic mooring winches each complete with associated zone 1 hazardous area electric hydraulic power units, local control stations, remote control station, length and tension monitoring systems, four roller fairleads and synthetic mooring ropes.

The Topside Transportation Barges needed to be very accurately positioned at the Finger Pier, under the Topsides.

This was accomplished with the use our 2 x 30 tonne winches located on each barge, with wires connected to bollards on the Finger Pier. Once the barges were in position, the winches remained activated to continue to hold them in place, until the seafastening had been installed. The positioning winches performed a very similar function when the Catamaran was brought in over the GBS for load transfer. The winches were used for final alignment and then to secure the Catamaran during initial load transfer.
